The Hair Brush That Changed Our Lives

If you have a child who absolutely detests brushing his or her hair, please thank my mother-in-law for the life-changing tip she is about to bestow upon you. My daughter is what some call a “sensational child.” This is a child who has a strong reaction when certain senses are activated (often called a sensory processing disorder) – for us, the sense that causes the most difficult reactions is touch. Things like scratchy tags, seams in socks, and rough textures send my little one into sensory overload and cause big stress reactions. Many days getting dressed and basic grooming turn into huge challenges. One of those challenges has always been brushing her hair. Because hair clips, pony tails, and braids all tend to drive her mad, I was at a loss for how to keep her looking semi-groomed and dreadlock-free, short of shaving her head. Then my MIL sent us this magical brush…

The Knot Genie Detangling Hair Brush has been a morning savior for us. Something about the unique shape and plastic bristles clicks with my daughter, and she is finally willing to brush her hair on a daily basis without a meltdown. If you have a sensitive child, I highly recommend you head on over to knotgenie.com and snag one for $19.
