The stroller market isn’t exactly an easy one to break into. You have your standard Gracos and Chiccos that will always dominate the mass market, and then there’s the elite names like Bugaboo and Maclaren that seem to have a lock on the rest.
Oh wait, but have you heard of Mamas & Papas? Because if you haven’t, you most certainly will.
The name might be new here in the States (their strollers, high chairs and infant seats recently launched at Babies ‘R Us), but Mamas & Papas has been around for almost 30 years and is the number one baby brand in Great Britain. This family-owned business decided to travel overseas as a virtually unknown competitor in this rather cluttered market, and ended up selling out their Urbo pushchair in a mere 4 days. In fact we knew we had to offer one to a loyal reader after seeing, using and falling in love with the Urbo, yet they’ve been impossible to get.

Just looking at the Urbo pushchair ($499.99), you can tell it’s made for a city baby. Sleek, chic and nimble, it was designed to take on the high fashion and crowded streets of an urban environment. It’s lightweight enough to lug around for the day (weighing in at a mere 20 pounds), plus it’s incredibly easy to open, close and maneuver. (We know many stroller companies untruthfully say this, but trust me; this is coming from a woman who has tested and used far too many strollers for only having one toddler.)
And above everything else, it’s simply a pleasure to use. The little one will love the plush seat, full-coverage sun canopy, adjustable footrest and padded handle bar; and mom will love how it feels to push around. (If you’ve never experienced a high-quality stroller, it’s very similar to how a luxury car seems to float on the road.)
Although it’s compact and stripped down to the basics, you’ll still have incredibly useful features like an adjustable handle bar and a surprising amount of storage space. It’s also important to note that the chrome frame doesn’t only look chic, but serves a purpose: no plastic or coils to stick and break. And their attachable baby pram allows newborns on up to enjoy the luxurious ride.
