Let me start this by saying that I had a child three years ago (leaving me with scarring, puckering — a generally unrecognizable mid-section), and I admittedly haven’t really worked out since being pregnant.
So you can imagine that I didn’t have much hope for my bathing suit shopping yesterday. I was already emotionally prepared for the worst — I’ve done this dance before.
Yet what I was not prepared for was me leaving the mall, shopping bag in hand, feeling confident and happy.
I went to Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret and H&M before deciding to take a quick peek in JCPenney. You never know, right? And right there when I first walked in was the bathing suit I’ve been looking for: A retro-inspired, full-coverage swimsuit that’s somehow sexy and comfortable. And rather than the $150+ price tags I was used to, this one only cost $42. $42!
It has tummy-flattening ruching alone the mid-section, flattering cups, and a little skirt for some flirty flair (that also adds comfort and coverage). It comes in all sizes, including plus, and I think it looks even more flattering on a girl with curves. It comes with detachable straps, two different top types (the cinched top is more supportive than the twist), and a range of pretty colors. (I bought it in black and green.)
Check out your local JCPenney for the Allen B. Swim Dress, or buy one online. (If you do buy online, consider going up a size. They run slightly small.)
