A very special guest made a return to our home today. Coming all the way from the North Pole, the Elf on the Shelf has come back to us with great fanfare and delight from my four year old.
We first introduced the Elf on the Shelf as a new family tradition last Christmas, not knowing if it would continue year after year. But it was a great success with our then toddler. So much so that throughout the year she has asked, “when is the Elf on the Shelf coming back,” or “where is the Elf on the Shelf now?” or “what do you think the Elf on the Shelf eats for breakfast.” Yes, she has become very curious about our family’s elf. So what is the Elf on the Shelf you might ask?
It is one of Santa’s elves that comes to visit every day during the month of December to insure that your children are behaving themselves. At night, when the children are asleep, the Elf flies home to Santa to give him a full report on your child’s behavior. When he returns, he appears in a new place. Each day includes a hunt for the children to figure out where the Elf may rest. Will he be on the mantel? Will he be on the fridge? Will he be on top of the TV?
The Elf comes with a picture book all about him and his life with Santa. A book that my child – for one – adores. If you want to invite your own Elf into your holiday traditions, you can order a Elf and Book set right here for $31.95.
