The Travel BugJan Halvarson
With the long weekend upon us, I always get the travel bug to go somewhere I’ve never been before. Along with that bug comes the art of packing one’s bag and trying to fit it all into one carry all or backpack. I’m not one for the long line ups at customs or at the bag kiosk, nor do I like lugging around a huge boat anchor everywhere. Nope! I like to zip in and out of all possible line ups/check-ins so that I can savour every adventure moment that my weekend awaits. So for my first post here at Babble I thought it might be fun to share with you what I would pack for a long weekend to a new city destination.
To capture my weekend I’d like to get a little creative at the same time as taking some memorable shots, so the The Golden Half Camera – Red Tree is luring me in. Cool thing about this camera is that it allows for two shots on one frame so you can get a cool diptych-type photograph. And those little red triangles on the face are just too cute to resist!
To pack everything in a backpack is a must and this striped fleece variety from the folks at Poketo not only is a great size, it’s just simply super-cute and perfect for a summery getaway. Since I’m packing light I really can only take one shoe, and I’m loving these Salt Water Sandals – great for the beach, and for a casual dinner out.
I don’t know about you but I always lose my sunglasses, so if I’m planning a far off trip I always buy a pair that I can afford to loose and I’m loving these Carrie Sunglasses over at Fred Flare.
I saw this towel yesterday at The Bay and fell in love with it’s luxuriousness and not to mention that it’s large enough to become an extra blanket on a cool night. Will it fit in my bag though? Probably not, hence my next item:
A multi-color woven jute belt that goes with any colour your wearing and can also tie up my towel to my bag if needed. (Okay, I might need two).
For fun I’m bringing my iPad (that I don’t really have) – remember this is all pretend, and it’s lovely new Etch-a-Sketch iPad cover, the most adorable snail mail kit – World’s Smallest Post Service ; ( I love the idea of sending micro packages around the world to all my friends while I’m away) – I’ll collect the postcards for myself. And this little travel journal, I Was Here by San Francisco-based artist Kate Pocrass which guides the user to explore the easily overlooked and wonderful everyday details encountered while traveling.
Add to top things off; a light cool gingham shirt, a pair of comfy trousers, a t-shirt , a dress, maybe a sweater and we’re set for a fun summery adventurous long weekend! How about you, what would you pack for a long weekend away?
