Top 10 Summer Decor Trends

I’ll admit I go easy in the trend department.  As I grow tired of things rather easily, I’m not one to grab a trendy wallpaper and paper away.  But I will use trends sometimes to accessorize  if I really love them and want to make a room pop.  Usually I switch things up for the season and that will sometimes include a trend I’m loving or maybe I see a trend and then see a new one coming from it just around the corner.  This summer has been filled with pops of color, patterns and textures.  From florals to stripes, ginghams to polka dots, the summer trends of 2011 have been fun that I can say for certain.  Here’s my top ten list of the summer! What is your favorite? What trend that I didn’t mention do you like this summer or you think is coming just around the corner?

  • The Chevron 1 of 10
    The Chevron
Zig-zag, chevron, whatever you call it, it's still going strong and adds an extra pop to any room. Photo from House and Home by Angus Fergusson.
  • Florals 2 of 10
    Florals
Florals are the perfect summer accessory, from pillows, bedding to wallpaper. Loving this new bedding from the 2012 Ikea catalogue
  • Nautical 3 of 10
    Nautical
Yacht-style is another perfect way to accessorize during the summer this year, everywhere you look, there are whales, anchors, coral, etc. Check out West Elm for some great pieces. (via H&H).
  • Rainbows 4 of 10
    Rainbows
You can't go wrong with a palette of rainbow colours scattered about a room like this bedding as seen in House and Home. Photo by Stacy Brandford. Also think stairwells, towels, pillows.
  • Polka Dots 5 of 10
    Polka Dots
I've been seeing polka dots popping out here and there this spring from large to small. Great for the walls especially. Here as seen in the Ikea catalogue
  • Collections 6 of 10
    Collections
Displaying collections that are sentimental, unique or just plain colourful are a great way to decorate. Loving these plates from Lisa Congdon. Photo by Jen Siska for Dwell Magazine.
  • Gingham 7 of 10
    Gingham
Checks and ginghams never really venture too far away from summer it seems. They've been going strong for quite a while and are a fun way to add a little punch to a display. Love this wall project by Micheal Penny of House and Home.
  • Lemons 8 of 10
    Lemons
Lemons are a little trend I've been noticing, or maybe I'm just liking them right now. Especially with the leaves left on. Great for a display, and how I'd wish to see a wallpaper or fabric with lemons and leaves. Photo by Thomas J. Story for sunset.com.
  • Western 9 of 10
    Western
Well maybe right now it's a bit tex-mex western, but I'm loving the western look which will take one well into the fall with all the flatwoven rugs and pillows. As seen in the 2012 Ikea catalogue
  • Stripes 10 of 10
    Stripes
One can do so much with stripes. From rugs, to pilows, bedding, drapes, even bold thick stripes on walls. I love the turkish style outside on outdoor furniture. Shown here an assortment from Martha Stewart via Suzanne Dimma, H&H
