Traveling with kids is fun, exciting, and adventurous, but it can also be a challenge if you haven’t planned things out or equipped yourself with the proper equipment.
Four people to a room is standard in hotels, cruises, and other forms of accommodations, so when you’re toting 3 or 4 bambinos chances are you need to spend an extra buck on a rollaway bed or upgrade to a larger room/suite. This is where blow-up mattresses come in quite handy. But if I am being honest with you, they are usually a mega pain. First off, most don’t come with pumps. And if they do, chances are they are the manual ones that take forever to fill any kind of blow-up device including something as small as a child’s balloon. Second of all, the mattresses NEVER fold up the same way and take up a ton of space, something that is limited and precious when traveling with a family!
I was recently given the opportunity to test the Tuckaire Toddler Travel Bed, but was a little apprehensive after my previous experiences with uncomfortable portable mattresses …
Opening the box I was pleased to see that the mattress came rolled up in a carry case/bag, making it extremely convenient to pack or haul. Once I peeked into the bag, however, I was really surprised to find a Jetaire miniature electric pump complete with all attachments!
Thanks to the pump, inflating the mattress took just a few minutes, and I was able to control the pressure of both the exterior and interior sections. The real beauty of this bed is its patented “Tuckaire” System, which allows you to use standard-sized crib sheets tucking in and around the inner mattress that also provide an extra level of comfort and cushioning. There are two slightly raised edges that help to prevent your child from falling out. My girls love this mattress so much that upon their request we set it up in the living room for them to ‘play nap’ on.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this bed to anyone; it is excellent for children and the perfect sleepover solution, transitional bed, and camping and travel mattress. I’m not surprised it won the National Parenting Seal of Approval — it certainly gets mine!
