Winter's Bone: WATCH the Oscar Nominated Film at Home

When the Oscar Nominations 2011 list was announced on Tuesday, most of the film up for the big Best Picture awards were givens. Social Network, Black Swan, True Grit…those films were shoe-ins for the honor. And then there was Winter’s Bone. A independent film, Winter’s Bone won the jury prize at the 2010 Sundance Festival- a main stream release it is not. But now this Oscar underdog is getting a whole new audience with their Academy Award nomination.  So what is Winter’s Bone?

“17-year-old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) sets out to track down her father, who put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails, Ree and her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. Challenging her outlaw kin’s code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasions and threats offered up by her relatives and begins to piece together the truth. Based on the novel by Daniel Woodrell.”

Want to see more? You can buy the DVD – which came out last year- from Amazon right here for $19.99.
