11 Tongue-in-Cheek Gift Ideas for Kids on the Naughty List

We like to have fun with my grandfather on Christmas morning.

Every year, when we woke up and scrambled down to the tree, everyone’s stockings would be full to overflowing except one. My grandfather’s stocking would have been replaced by a mesh stocking filled with coal.

It made sense, his nickname, after all, is Grumps.

We’d all have a good laugh at his expense, and then his real stocking would be brought out from behind the tree and we’d get down to serious wrapping paper shredding.

This year, we’ll do it again. While everyone eventually ends up on Santa’s nice list, it is fun to tease someone that they have landed on the naughty list. We do it with a stocking full of coal, here are a couple of other practical jokes that you can put under the tree to give a gentle reminder to the kids on the Naughty List that “Santa’s is always watching.”

  • Certificate of Naughty 1 of 11

You think the Elf On The Shelf is too intimidating for kids? Imagine if they got a letter "From the desk of Santa Claus" and it was black, listing all the naughty things they'd done, and came with an official certificate placing them on the Naughty List!? Woah.

Santa's Red Letter is a website where you can get letters (good and bad) for your kids, but the bad ones will really scare them straight.

Get it for $9.95 from Santa's Red Letter

  • Bah Humbug Candy Cane 2 of 11

"No flavor, no stripes, no spirit!" this treat declares. This bald candy cane gives me a giggle and is a fun way to stir up grandpa or the kids.

Get it from Accoutrements for $2.50.

  • Reindeer Poo 6 of 11
    Screen-Shot-2013-12-03-at-10.52.46-AM

Nothing says you've been bad quite like getting what the reindeers have left behind. This one is a candle tart that "begins with top notes of apples and pears; followed by middle notes of eucalyptus, pine, and geranium; and well-balanced with base notes of vanilla, cedarwood, and patchouli." If only diapers had that smell.

Get it from Etsy for $2.46

  • Naughty List Mug 7 of 11
    Screen-Shot-2013-12-03-at-10.43.01-AM

A family vote each day in December could decide who gets "the Naughty mug" to have their egg nog, hot chocolate, or coffee. Then, on Christmas Eve, it magically disappears as everyone has been redeemed to the nice list.

Get it from Amazon for $9.99

  • Naughty Ornament 8 of 11
    Screen-Shot-2013-12-03-at-10.55.57-AM

Nothing says 'You've been naughty" quite like waking up one morning and finding this hanging from your bedroom door, on your stocking, or gasp, on the tree!

    SOLD OUT from Selfridges.

  • Naughty Sweater 9 of 11
    Screen-Shot-2013-12-03-at-11.11.47-AM

It looks real, but it's not so it won't be messy. Still, the message will be heard loud and clear!
