12 Classic Quotes Remade for Modern Kids

We all know the cliché advice that’s been passed on to kids for generations — like, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” But today’s kids are living in a different world with different digital concerns.

How will Generation Z relate to these clichés? Perhaps it’s time to reimagine and redefine our most classic quotes for the next generation of digital natives.

Here are 12 suggestions:

  • Classic Quotes, Remade for a Modern World 1 of 13

So how does cliché advice hold up for modern kids? Here are 12 classic quotes remade for the next generation...

  • ORIGINAL: "Life is what happens when you’re busy making plans." 2 of 13

REMADE: "Life is what happens when you're looking down at your phone."

It's so much more applicable than the original quote.

  • ORIGINAL: "The pen is mightier than the sword." 3 of 13

REMADE: "The tweet is mightier than the drone."

    For relate-ability.

  • ORIGINAL: "If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all." 4 of 13

REMADE: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't leave a comment."

To prevent another generation of cyberbullies and trolls.

  • ORIGINAL: "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." 5 of 13

REMADE: "Great minds spread ideas; average minds retweet ideas; small minds are Internet trolls."

While Eleanor Roosevelt's original quote is certainly applicable, the remade version is way more practical for today's kids.

  • ORIGINAL: "Don’t do anything you wouldn’t want to tell your Dad about." 6 of 13

REMADE: "Don't do anything you wouldn't want your Dad to see on Facebook tomorrow."

..."Dad" can also be replaced with future boss/all of your friends/the entire world.

  • ORIGINAL: "To the world you may be one person, but to one person you might be the world." 7 of 13

REMADE: "To the world you might be one person, but to your followers you might be the world."

    For perspective.

  • ORIGINAL: "SING like no one is listening; LOVE like you’ve never been hurt; DANCE like nobody is watching." 8 of 13

REMADE: "Sing like a YouTube star; Love like a Pinterest quote; Dance like nobody can GIF you."

Because the original is way too cliché at this point.

  • ORIGINAL: "Be the change you want to see in the world." 9 of 13

REMADE: "Start the change you want to see on Kickstarter."

Because Gandhi would totally be down with Kickstarter do-gooders.

  • ORIGINAL: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." 10 of 13

RELATED: "Beauty is in the eye of the Instagram user."

  • ORIGINAL: "Life doesn’t have a rewind button." 11 of 13

REMADE: "The Internet doesn't have a delete button."

Alternative quote: "What happens on the Internet, stays on the Internet."

  • ORIGINAL: "Think before you speak" 12 of 13

    REMADE: "Think before you post."

Because the Internet doesn't have a delete button.

  • ORIGINAL: "Actions speak louder than words." 13 of 13

REMADE: "Actions speak louder than LIKES."

A reminder to stop passively observing and start actively DOING.
