15 Inappropriate and Bizarre Children's Halloween Costumes

Halloween is over a month away, but the stores have been filled with holiday decorations and costumes since the day they took down their Fourth of July displays. I don’t have to tell my children that the big day is approaching, they have eyes. Plus, our trip to grocery store now includes navigating a hay bale and a tower of jack-o-lanterns.

What each of them will dress as for Halloween has been the topic of daily conversation for a few weeks now and this weekend we’ll brave a local costume shop to secure a treasured (and overpriced) piece of magically transformative cotton.

Their ideas for what they’ll don to collect their candy change frequently and, for the most part, I let them choose. I do, however, have a few rules about what it is appropriate. Exposed midriffs and short skirts are not for my daughter and, if the costume is likely to give a grown man nightmares, it’s not coming home with my son.
