Top Organizations and Charities for Kids
The holidays are the prime time for giving back - and what better way to do it than by supporting a kids charity? These organizations offer some of the coolest holiday programs for kids, and all of them provide money to worthwhile causes. So if you've got a few extra bucks, some volunteer time, or extra clothes and supplies laying around the house, here's where you can send them. And if we missed an organization you love working with during the holidays, please spread the word and nominate it here! - Christina Couch

An affiliate of the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy, this San Francisco Bay-area nonprofit aims to end illiteracy in California, where more than half of all fourth-graders read below grade level. In addition to running book drives year-round, creating a team of volunteer tutors, and being a staunch advocate for public education, the organization gets an extra salute from us for its Literacy Mitzvah Centerpiece Project. Instead of using flowers as centerpieces, JCL will provide a custom-designed centerpiece made of books for your holiday celebration. Once the holidays are over, the books will be donated to a JCL tutoring site in your name.
