Top Organizations and Charities for Kids
The holidays are the prime time for giving back - and what better way to do it than by supporting a kids charity? These organizations offer some of the coolest holiday programs for kids, and all of them provide money to worthwhile causes. So if you've got a few extra bucks, some volunteer time, or extra clothes and supplies laying around the house, here's where you can send them. And if we missed an organization you love working with during the holidays, please spread the word and nominate it here! - Christina Couch

The Salvation Army’s red collection pots and ringing bells have become virtually synonymous with the holiday season. The organization’s Red Kettle program assists more than 4 million people during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season (donations go toward dinners, clothing, and toys), while the Angel Tree program focuses on bringing much-needed gifts to children who wouldn’t receive them otherwise. (It was even expanded to an online program to further help others in need. Last year, nearly 70,000 children and seniors in need were “adopted” through the online program alone.) And though they’re perhaps the Salvation Army’s most well-known endeavor, holiday programs are just a small part of its reach. All year round, this Christian organization serves about 30 million Americans through initiatives that focus on everything from disaster relief to adult rehabilitation to combating human trafficking.
How You Can Help: Let us count the ways. Donating money or supporting one of their many thrift stores is always nice, but you can also donate time, vehicles, household goods, airline miles, or adopt an angel this year starting November 2.
