7 Reasons We Won't Be Carving a Pumpkin This Year (or Any Other Year) for Halloween

7 Reasons We Won't Be Carving a Pumpkin This Year (or Any Other Year) for HalloweenWe have our costumes picked out.

Our house is stocked with candy to give away.

We’re nearly all ready for Halloween (the kids are sure excited), but there is one Halloween tradition we haven’t done yet.

We have not carved any pumpkins.

I have not bought a pumpkin though we’ve passed them many times in the store. I have not stocked up on the carving tools, ingredients to make home-made roasted pumpkin seeds and we haven’t scoured the internet in search of the best pumpkin carving stencil to out do the carving our neighbour put out.

And I don’t plan to do any of that this year, or any year for that matter.

Click through to read 7 reasons why we won’t be carving a pumpkin for Halloween:

  • Pumpkins Smell 1 of 7
    Pumpkins Smell
I know it may seem like a lame reason, but I really can't stand the smell of pumpkins. It's even worse when you cut them up -- it makes everything smell like pumpkin.

    I Suck at Crafts
I am not ever going to be the first one to raise my hand and offer to do a craft. I would much rather read a story about a family that made a pumpkin carving.

I'd Have to Do All The Work
It's one of those things you're 'supposed' to do with your kids... except I don't do with them... I would be doing for them.

    Sorting Seeds Is Impossible
One of the better things about carving pumpkins is using the seeds to make your own roasted pumpkin seeds (which I do like). It just takes way too long to do that and it's not entirely worth it.

  • It’s So Messy 5 of 7
    It's So Messy
My kids will not get their hands dirty and this is no exception. It's not that I don't want them to, they just have this weird thing about getting their hands messy, so it would fall on me to do that as well.

  • They Just Rot 6 of 7
    They Just Rot
Every time I have had a pumpkin carving on our porch it just sits there for way too long and rots. It seems like a game of chicken between my husband and I over who will get rid of it first --- & it's always me.

    Painting is Just Easier
The new trend is to paint pumpkins and this is something I can see us doing in place of carving. There is little smell, no mess and my kids could be down for that.
