February 14, 1985. Huey Lewis and the News. I was 15. That was my first concert.
But that was then, this is now.
As a radio host at a pop station in the 90s, I witnessed first hand the parents begging because their young child NEEDED to go to Spice Girls, BSB, NSYNC, etc.
No, my friends, your child does not NEEEEED to go to the concert. You’re just trying to be Parent of the Year for a night by spoiling your kid.
And it’s happening again as Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and Rihanna weave their pop music magic around the brains of young children everywhere. What used to be a tween thing is now reaching younger and younger.
This week, as Lady Gaga announced her world tour starting in January, many parents sat down after the kids went to bed to discuss whether or not tickets to the show would make great Christmas presents.
One of those parents is my brother.
My niece is 6.
My brother is trying to decide if buying his 6 year old daughter tickets to Lady Gaga makes him the Best. Dad. Ever. or The Worst Parent In The World.
Do you take your kids to concerts? How old are they? What kind of concerts do you take them to? Would you take a 6 yr old to Gaga?
