Are Cell Phones Safe for Kids?

Cellphones transmit your conversation to via radio frequency waves, not wholly dissimilar from those used in a microwave oven. So similar, in fact, that a recent experiment showed it is possible to cook an egg in the radiation emitted from two cell phones (it takes a little over an hour). The experiment may be somewhat silly, but serious research indicates that cell phone radiation may be affecting our brains and ears in ways we know little about. Scientists worry children may be particularly vulnerable to this radiation as their skulls are thinner and their brains are still developing. Ten years ago nary a child owned a cell phone. Today cellphone products are aimed at younger and younger consumers, with some phones designed specifically for kids. So: should we worry? Studies have linked cellphones to cancer, though not conclusively and there is no research on the long term effects on children. The FDA's stance so far is that there no concrete data showing any danger from cell phones, hence no need to take precautions. However government agencies in more safety-oriented nations such as Sweden and Great Britain recommend limiting cell phone use in children.
