If you asked me at 6 o’clock in the evening, I would quickly tell you that it’s the moment when I close the door to their bedrooms at bedtime.
By that time of day, I am simply wiped out and ready to have some time for myself.
So, I stay up later than I should, trying to squeeze in as much adult time as possible.
Then, when morning comes, I regret not getting to bed at a decent hour and then the massive caffeine problem that I mentioned the other day comes into play.
So, I’m exhausted and my skin looks lackluster. Frumpy, much?
A Swedish study shows that there really is such a thing as beauty sleep. Their study showed that “[s]leep deprived people are perceived as less attractive, less healthy and more tired compared with when they are well rested.”
Lack of sleep also causes moodiness, irritability, lack of interest, memory impairment, and an inability to multitask.
So, how can you get more sleep? Try some or all of these 10 ideas…
1. Wake up at the same time every morning
2. Go to bed at the same time every night
3. Don’t consume caffeine within 6 hours of bedtime
4. Avoid alcohol or heavy foods within a few hours of bedtime
5. Exercise regularly
6. Create a sleeping environment that lends itself to great sleep hygiene
7. Avoid watching tv in bed
8. Find an effective method for handling stress
9. Don’t nap during the day
10. Try going to bed just an hour earlier than normal
I know that this will be a challenge for me, but I have to think that combined with the other tips in my Dump the Mom Frump plan, getting more sleep will make a big difference in how I look and feel.
