Dump the Mom Frump: Try These Stylish Clothes That Are Still Comfortable

By Nichole |

stylish clothes for momsFor the first in my 10 Ways to Dump the Mom Frump series, let’s tackle clothes!

The trouble with most attempts to defrump is that we set unattainable goals for ourselves.

Visions of stylish, dry clean only outfits paired with pretty heels, while lovely, are simply impractical for most moms.

We still need to be able to run to drop off a forgotten lunch, walk across a soccer field, and make last-minute dashes to the grocery store.

Yoga pants and a sweatshirt are comfortable, easy, and require zero thought in the morning rush, but they certainly don’t make me feel good about myself. At all.

So, I’m trying to set realistic goals for myself.

Instead of buying clothes that will hang alongside all of the other impractical and uncomfortable clothes in my closet, I’m rethinking things.

Here are some suggestions to take things up a notch while staying comfortable at the same time…

Dump the Mom Frump: Lose the Yoga Pants

Instead of yoga pants and a hoodie, how about...

…a super comfy dress paired with cozy leggings? I love this Ahleta Get There Dress.
Get it at Athleta, $79.

I just told my husband I need to go shopping! =)

  2. Sherri says:

OK, you seriously need to plan my wardrobe!

  3. angela says:

Please come dress me. Except the maxi dress because I am vertically challenged ;)

  4. Jackie Hennessey says:

Wearing yoga pants when you’re not heading to or coming from a work out is one of my biggest pet peeves.I can’t tell you how many times I hear moms say, “I’m married, so why bother?” Hello, you’re a cute mom. Not a frumpy one. You deserve to look and feel good about yourself, so fold up those sweaty lint-attracters and make them go bye bye until your next workout. Blow dry your own hair with your toddler. Have her help you play dress up. You deserve to look great because it makes YOU feel better about yourself. I promise it will take a whole 5 minutes for you to pull on a cute cotton blouse, skinny jeans and riding boots in the morning.

  5. Jessica says:

I have those pants from VS. love them!

  6. Jessica (@fourplusanangel) says:

Love your picks and now I feel the need to shop.

  7. baltimoregal says:

These are really cute, and a good idea for the most part, except a few of these looks definitely do not flatter short people ;)
I’d love to see a follow-up with less expensive options? Target and Old Navy etc. instead of Anthropologie and Lululemon, you know.

  8. Melissa says:

Love it all except the blue dress from Anthologie. Unless you’tr a 6’0, 120 lb blonde, its going to look like a mu mu.

  9. Rachel {at} Mommy Needs a Vacation says:

I love the gray Athleta dress!! And Lululemon? I live in that stuff! Love your picks!

  10. Jaime says:

I agree with baltimoregal! I love some of the things but some is too pricey!

  11. Lily Kay says:

All of these are way out of my budget, also I’m stuck between sizes and have the dreaded mommy tire, so very few things look decent on me. I’ll stick with jeans and yoga pants.

  12. Sarah Myers says:

$130 for a top and $80 for a silver necklace? Yikes. I do love my dresses and leggings though.

  13. Karry says:

These dresses from Anthro are cute but way expensive! I wish the ideas were more budget friendly.

  14. Jessika says:

I don’t know about everyone else, but these are pretty much all way outta my price range :(

  15. diane caso says:

    agree with above..very pricey..
