Before I can remember, I knew I was meant to be a mother. It was the answer I gave to the question, “what do you want to be when you grow up” for my kindergarten year book and the only thing I never wavered on as far as what I wanted to do as I grew older. I felt it with ever ounce of my being that it was supposed to happen.
As I grew, found the love of my life, and we were ready to start a family — my faith in my body and my dream came into question. With the loss of each pregnancy — each wanted child, I had no idea if I was going to do what I felt so deeply in my bones I was supposed to do.
It is a terrifying fear to face — the unknown, not sure where your life is headed when you’re faced with something you had no way of preparing for, feeling your dreams slip away. No one knows that terror quite like Stephanie Nielson who survived a plane crash back in 2008, burning 80% of her body with such severe injuries, she wasn’t expected to live. A mother to four young children at the time of her accident, Stephanie was faced with the most terrifying of unknowns — what’s going to happen to her family? Will she be able to have more children? Who will take care of her kids? When will she see her family again?
“My hope is that the book will provide strength and peace to those who are low on that right now for whatever reason. I wrote it so that others could feel love and believe in happiness and in a greater purpose.” – Stephanie Nielson
Stephanie’s story is a true testament to the power of faith, family and love. She not only survived the accident, but she thrived and found true joy in the everyday. She found the strength she needed to beat the odds though the love, support and faith of her family, friends and all those who were captivated by her story.
Stephanie just released her first book titled “Heaven Is Here” — the incredible story of her accident, her recovery and everything between. Through all the tears, fears and struggles, Stephanie shares how her faith, the incredible bond between a family and the unwavering support of a community not only got her through what would seem impossible odds, but it has helped build her into a stronger person.
Motherhood is an incredible journey and one I am so thankful that I have been given the chance to experience, and a journey I’m thankful Stephanie is able to continue to experience. Stephanie just welcomed her 5th child – the same day her memoir was published and it’s clear through watching this video love letter to her children, the true power of just how far we can go with love, optimism and the support of a community.
