Hysterical "Star Wars" Primer for MommyJen at PIWTPITT
My friend Andrea over at Underachiever’s Guide to Being a Domestic Goddess (DG) wrote a hilarious primer for moms with “Star Wars” obsessed kiddos. My family loves SW and we watch the movies regularly and my son enjoys reading the books. We have a bazillion light sabers in the house and several blasters. We have costumes out the wazoo and my son covets the Lego Death Star. (“I only need to save $100 more dollars mom and then it’s all mine, mom!”)
I thought I knew everything there was to know about SW – until I read DG’s post.
She wrote a great summary of all 6 movies and when you read it all together like that it sounds like a soap opera! Amidala loves Anakin, but Anakin is drawn to the dark side! Lots of characters have two personalities or hidden pasts. Luke and Leia are secret twins and (spoiler alert) Darth Vader is their father!!!
I think George Lucas was raised on a heavy diet of “As the World Turns.” The only question this primer doesn’t answer for me is this: Am I the only one who thought Padme/Amidala was too old for Anakin? The first time they met she was a teenager and he was like 7 or something and then by the next movie Boom! they’re both teenagers and old enough to be in love. Why didn’t she age? Or is she 27 and he’s 17?? Maybe DG can answer that for me in a follow up post.
Besides the saga overview, DG writes a quick introduction to all the main characters. I liked this one about Darth Maul:
Darth Maul – bad ass nightmarish red and black double bladed lightsaber usin’ creeper. The only thing you need to remember about this guy, is that if you buy your kids a lightsaber like his, you will have broken things around your house..and it doesn’t get put away somewhere nicely – it’s too damn big.
See? Useful information about the movies AND the merchandise (sold separately).
