Jam-Packed Weekend: Yay or Nay?

By Christine.Coppa |

Yawn. It’s Monday. Can you believe it? The weekend was good to us. I’m one of those parents that likes to jam-pack my weekend with fun stuff to do. I like to keep my kid engaged, busy and stimulated. So, on Friday night we met my family at Positano in Wayne.  My friend owns the place so JD got the royal treatment and got to make a pizza. I’ve learned that letting JD cook or at least help with mealtime prep is a great way to get him to eat! And eat he did. He gobbled up his broccoli, mushroom pizza and a side of ziti marinara. By the time we got home we were both ready to crash.

On Saturday, my friend, Jemma, and her cousin, Zora, (who is JD’s age) came over to swim and BBQ. I love having these adult/kid play-dates because everyone ends up having fun in the sun. JD and Zora got along great, playing kitchen inside, splashing in the pool, picnicking on snacks, chalking and playing ball in the courtyard while Jemma grilled. They left around 7 PM and we were exhausted. The heat and action really kicked our butts. We both showered quickly, changed into jammies and snuggled before bed.

Yesterday was quiet and extremely hot. If this makes sense, it was actually too hot to play in the pool. The air was extremely thick and there was no breeze. I declared it lazy SundayFUNday. We took the Jeep to a car wash, watched superhero cartoons under the covers in my bed with the AC blasting, got sprinkle Munchkins at Dunkin Donuts, and visited a local pet store. This may seem odd since we don’t have any pets, but we do this all the time when the weather is off. JD loves to look at the fish, birds, snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, mice and ferrets. He pushes a little cart around and I usually let him pick something out for my Mom’s dog, Max, who lives at the shore. Yesterday, a local shelter was hosting an adoption so JD made friends with some pups looking for a home, sigh, just not our home.

It was a great weekend. JD passed out at 7:30 PM last night. Always a good sign that we got a lot of fun in!

I like to be busy on the weekends. Do you? How did you spend your weekend?

I work most weekends..ugh! So when I do have a weekend day off or when I get off early I try to plan things for us to do. If I don’t then I am really antsy and can’t stand the fact that I’m wasting a perfectly good weekend.

Question: Are you still planning on getting Jack a puppy for his Bday or have you decided to wait on that?

  2. Christine.Coppa says:

@ Crystal T: Negative. I want him to have a golden retriever (like I did!) and our condo is too small + a GR needs a yard in my opinion. He will get his GR when we move. Perhaps by age 6! xo

Our weekend was a mix. We had a family birthday party and dinner out but still spent a good part of the weekend trying to stay cool in the humid heat. We are pretty busy during the work week so I try to have some down time during the weekend to recharge and relax.

I want to nap every weekend. Rarely happens. Totally enjoyed laying under the covers with the AC blasting while JD watched cartoons = HEAVEN!!

I like to jam-pack our Saturdays and relax all day Sunday with movies, play-doh, baking, and crafts. :)

So now i have to ask you…have you ever been “recognized” out and about? I so totally almost went to that pet store yesterday afternoon, because we were at best buy and sports authority and my daughter LOVES to visit the animals, but it was so stinkin hot i just needed to get home to my pool (just in time for a thunderstorm, of course) Anyway I just was freaking out realizing where you were and wondering what the heck I would do if i ever ran into a “celebrity blogger” lol and what your reaction would have been had I embarrassed myself as i suspect i would.

@Sarah, I have! At Target, at the NYC Central Park Zoo and at the beach. Very trippy. All three times ppl have said: “JD … Chrissy … Glamour?” I am not a celeb, honey. I wish. xo

I think our summers are crazy-busy with traveling a lot and I’m looking forward to fall’s slowdown. My firm walked a charity 5K, my stroller in tow, my family jumped in the pool, baked and went hiking at a lake.

I would say the majority of our weekends are pretty packed… even in the summer there is always parties; bday stuff; etc etc etc. BUT after a few of those i get edgy & crave a full on weekend of NO Plans so we can do whatever we feel like! Right now i’m excited as ever as this weekend coming up is the last b/f my oldest goes back to school so our plans are all up in the air.. i PLAN on spending every moment w/my boys doing nothing but fun stuff!!! reason being- once school starts it’s 2 soccer practices & games a week; along w/all the other school things that come up & we have every weekend from then until 1st of oct already full!!!!!!!!!!!! busy=good but sometimes lazy=great! :-0
