A Last Minute Gift, A Perfect Memory

As usual, I was completely stumped about what to get my 95 year old Grandmother for Christmas. She’s quite the fashionista, so picking out clothes or jewelry for her is sometimes a challenge. Because she usually ends up returning it.

A bottle of Bailey’s is a pretty good bet, but I had to assume that someone had already hopped on the booze train this year. In our family, i f you snooze, you lose.

As we were out and about yesterday we decided to take our chances and try to get all the kids to pose for an Old Time Photo.

The boys loved getting to dress up as cowboys, especially since they got to hold “real” guns. My niece thought that she was wearing the prettiest dress in the world, and asked the woman if she had a crown that she could wear with it. Instead of a crown, she got to wear a beautiful feather in her hair. And instead of a gun, she got to hold a Bible and a bottle of Jack Daniels. Because, obviously.

The entire experience turned into one of my favorite memories of the past year.

As an added bonus, I also ended up with a perfect present for my Grandmother. It goes along with all of the similar photos that my cousins and I have taken over the years and she was so happy when we gave it to her last night.

I love it when an impromptu decision turns into an amazing experience. It reminds me that you really never know when a little moment will turn into a lifelong memory.

So I want to know, what was your favorite kid related memory of 2011? Were you lucky enough to capture a photo of it? If you want to share the picture for an upcoming slideshow, please email it, with a brief description, to by December 28th.
