Mom Hacks: When You’re in a Hurry Do This Instead of That

By Kacy Faulconer |

In a perfect world we’d do the best of everything homemade, handmade, from scratch every time. Probably. Maybe.

But we live in an imperfect world where moms get tired, babies fuss, time runs out and the best intentions are thwarted. It’s OK.

Check out a few of my go-to hacks when you’re having one of those days. You don’t have to give up entirely! Click through for easy pumpkin cookies, an alternative to bath time, the main idea of pie (without the crust) and more!

Instead of Lasagna, Make Baked Rigatoni

Lasagna is delicious but time-consuming. If you've got the time and the ricotta, go for it. But if all you have is a jar of sauce, cooked pasta, and some shredded cheese--throw it all together in a 9x13 dish and bake it until the cheese melts. No layers? No problem! You'll get a close approximation of lasagna in less time with fewer ingredients.

I seriously remember where I was when I heard your top sheet tip for the first time. (I was at my house. Three years ago.) IT CHANGED MY LIFE. Boom, bed is made and no fighting.

  2. Shelley Fosse says:

I’m wondering what it says about me that I’ve already used all of these mom hacks except the sweats? I think it says “go buy some sweats; Halloween is just days away.”

  3. Gina says:

I definitely would dig apple crisp any day over apple pie. :)

  4. Jen says:

    You are a genius!

  5. Kimber says:

I just had those pumpkin cookies for the first time today–even more delicious than my 10-ingredient recipe! My friend used butterscotch chips, though, and I was not disappointed.

    1. Kacy Faulconer says:

      Will try butterscotch chips, stat.

Duvets? Maybe if you’re fancy folk. Just let the kid sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor.

  7. lookingbird says:

But I have a sweaty kid, so I still use the top sheet because otherwise I would be washing a smelly comforter every week- way worse!
