My Kids Went Back to School Today: My 5 Biggest Fears & 2 Things I'm Looking Forward To

My 5 Biggest Fears & 2 Things I'm Looking Forward To For SchoolToday was the first day of school for the year. It came by super fast for me and while I am embracing the routine change (which will hopefully be for the better), I am never really ready for change.

The first week of school always seems to be the hardest. Last night when I was talking to my kids again about how the next morning they would be heading off to school, I felt my anxiety rise. I tried to keep it hidden from the kids and I think I did a good job at it, but I could feel some of their anxiety as well.

Raru won’t have much of a change this year. She is still in the same classroom with the same teacher and only every other day. She will be getting some younger students into her classroom in the next few weeks (the junior kindergarten students), but for the most part it’s just a reunion from last year.

Speed has more of a change though. He is going into Grade 1 which means a new teacher, some new students, a heavier work load and a new routine which includes going 5 days a week. It’s going to be an adjustment for all of us.

I Worry They'll Lose Their Bond
Speed and Bean won't be seeing each other a whole lot. I worry that with their age gap and now with him gone so much during they day they won't get to hang out and bond as much.

  • I Worry It’s All Too Much 2 of 7
I Worry It's All Too Much
Last year they were so tired after their rare 3 days of school weeks. Raru's is the same, but I worry that 5 days a week is too much for Speed.

They are in French Immersion and I worry that because I don't know it, it will hold them back.

    I Worry For Lost Time
I am going to miss them. I have been with them since birth and their primary educator. Now that Speed is gone 5x a week, that's a lot of time to give up with him.

  • I Worry They Will Miss Each Other 5 of 7
I Worry They Will Miss Each Other
I know, such a silly worry because they live together, but I worry they will miss each other so much. They were in the same class last year and now their recess periods are even separated.

  • I Am Excited to Watch Them Learn! 6 of 7
I Am Excited to Watch Them Learn!
I am excited to see them grow in confidence, in skill and learning to love learning even more. It's so fun to watch their mind explode.

  • I Love Hearing Them Speak French 7 of 7
I Love Hearing Them Speak French
They are interchanging their English and French and it's so cool to watch their brains work this way.
