One Less Wrinkle in the School Week

I don’t remember where I heard about this little tactic, but it was long before Pinterest and it is probably the only part of my life that is actually organized. If Addie were left up to her own devices when it comes to getting dressed each morning before school she’d be wearing tutu’s and the same Taylor Swift concert t-shirt every day no matter what the weather. Luckily I can count on her changing her underpants, but everything else? Nope.

Every Sunday night Addie and I sit on her bedroom floor and check the week’s forecast on my phone. She picks out a complete (weather appropriate) outfit for each day and places each one in a sweater holder that hangs in her closet. Not only does it assure me that she won’t be running around looking for socks 3 minutes before the bus comes, but it has started to teach her about weather and reading temperatures.

Monday and Wednesday she has gym, so she knows she has to wear her gym shoes and play clothes but anything else is free game. Even though some of her outfits are still slightly ridiculous (Tuesday will be a grey floral ruffled dress with rainbow leggings and red cowgirl boots) I know she’ll be dressed appropriately and won’t be wearing the same thing everyday. (I also know all of her clothes won’t end up on the floor as she tears through all of her clothes looking for something to wear and then later putting everything that lands on the floor into a dirty hamper for me to wash. Oh the cycle of laundry with this little girl.

I found the sweater hanger at The Container Store for maybe $10? Similar ones are available almost anywhere including IKEA. She stores her tights in the bottom and the other spaces are reserved for the weeks’ outfits. It’s seriously the best thing we do each week to save us the “WHAT AM I GOING TO WEAR” headache.

Do you have any time savers for busy school mornings?
