Should Parents Put Their Overweight Children on a Diet? How Far is Too Far?

As an adult I struggle with my weight. I am constantly on and off of diets, gaining and losing the same twenty pounds. This is a problem new to me in the last decade. As a child I was always very thin as my kids are now. While my children’s weight is not currently a problem, I do worry that it could become one, particularly in my youngest who has a sweet tooth she came by honestly.

With childhood obesity rapidly becoming an epidemic, how do we ensure children maintain a healthy weight without impacting their self-esteem? Should parents of overweight children put them on a diet? Would you put your child on a diet? Let’s discuss!
