My kids head back to school in 3 weeks and our vacation time is almost spent. But it’s not too late to salvage summer!

The end of summer is a good chance for you and your kids to enjoy the season while you prepare for the school year ahead. So don’t let it get away from you. There’s still time to make the most of it.

If you pack in some of these goodies over the next few weeks your kids will have plenty to talk about in their “What I Did Over Summer Vacation” essays. They still write those, you know.

Go on a Bike Ride

I miss riding bikes all winter. Then it's summer and it seems way too hot. Take advantage of these last couple of weeks before school starts and pump up the tires, get everyone a helmet, and go for a bike ride. It counts as exercise. Tasty, tasty, exercise. For inspiration, watch Gabby's charming kids.

    We’re packing in the fun with a couple of short trips before school starts. I also give my kids some extra chores the week before school begins — they are less sad to return to school that way. It’s my way of making summer’s end less bittersweet. Thoughtful, no?

    I made jam at the beginning of the summer and it is ALMOST GONE!! I need to make more jam.
