The Berry Gnome Gang.

I’m not sure where I first saw it, Pinterest perhaps (most likely?) It was little strawberry men made with COOL WHIP whipped topping for heads. (Found it!) I didn’t remember what they used for eyes or even what they were for, but the image of them stuck in the back of my mind so as I was slicing strawberries for after dinner tonight I figured “HEY ADDIE! LET’S PUT ON A PLAY WITH STRAWBERRIES!” Ever the skeptic but up for anything she played along as we turned six strawberries, a few teaspoons of COOL WHIP, some poppy seeds, chocolate chips and sprinkles into our very own berry dramatic soap opera.

Here’s how it played out.

A gaggle of gnomes.

Oh you know, just a bunch of berry gnomes out on the town on a Friday evening.

I don’t think we’ve ever had more fun with our dessert.

Harold stuck out like a sore thumb. You had to eat him first. Poor Harold.

OH MY GOSH! These are too cute. My kids are going to go nuts for them. I’m thinking of picking up some frosting tubes to put funny faces and outfits on them! Great idea!!

  3. Amanda says:

I love the facial expressions. Playing with food never gets old.

Didn’t really get this idea at first… but looking through your photos of the creative things you and your daughter came up with, I’m sold! Lady Berry is a masterpiece.

These are so cute…I’m gonna think of other fruits I can use to make little COOL WHIP figures.

I pinned the strawberry Santas at Christmas, and of course totally forgot to do it. Yours are way better than anything I would have come up with anyway.

You seriously crack me up. We *must* get together soon.

Adorable! My daughter loves strawberries and would love these. I never would have thought to use poppy seeds for the eyes!
You know what I bet would be great, too? Kiwis. Like little sandwiches with Cool Whip in the middle.
    Thanks for the idea!

Casey, this is a grand idea! So grand in fact that I wasn’t too afraid to try it. My 4 year old hates strawberries (I know, what?) and when I made these little gnomes, he couldn’t get enough. I made about 20 and he and his brother named them all before they ate them. It was really cute and fun. Thanks for the great idea!

Adorable!! Simple so the kids can make and would be an awesome thing to bring to a summer BBQ or something. Will be trying this one out this weekend! (mmmm strawberry& cool whip)
