Top Organizations and Charities for Kids
The holidays are the prime time for giving back - and what better way to do it than by supporting a kids charity? These organizations offer some of the coolest holiday programs for kids, and all of them provide money to worthwhile causes. So if you've got a few extra bucks, some volunteer time, or extra clothes and supplies laying around the house, here's where you can send them. And if we missed an organization you love working with during the holidays, please spread the word and nominate it here! - Christina Couch

Keep your family warm while helping to keep families around the world out of poverty. Started in 2007 by three college guys who wanted to change the world (and who legitimately enjoyed crocheting), this nonprofit organization provides fair-wage crocheting jobs to women in Northern Uganda and sells their wares online and in stores around the country (like Nordstrom). The profits are then returned to Uganda to sustain their programs, enabling women to provide their families with the food and living materials necessary to break the cycle of poverty. Currently more than 150 artists and craftswomen in Uganda along with their families are achieving economic stability thanks to Krochet Kids’ reach. The organization recently started a new program outside of Lima, Peru, where they are now providing economic stability and hope to help even more families.
How you can help: Buy something from the store, whether it’s a hat, shirt, tote bag, or accessory, or donate directly from the site. You can also encourage area retailers to carry Krochet Kids’ products, apply for an internship, or e-mail email@example.com for information on volunteering.
