Their Baby Blanket Disappears and the World is Over

When Their Baby Blanket Disappears, The World is OverWhen I was pregnant with each of my kids, I picked up a baby blanket for each of them. My husband shared how much he had loved his when he was a child (he still kept it for sentimental reasons) and I thought it would be a great thing for each of our children.

Fast forward 8 years later and each of the kids are still sleeping with their baby blankets. That great idea I had when they were still in my womb turned out to be the cause of lost sleep and tears when the blankets inevitably get lost.

I have spent far too many hours in my kids’ life searching for these must-sleep with baby blankets. If I could go back, smart me would have picked up two or three of the exact same baby blankets. That way, I could rotate them out to clean them, get good sleep for all of us when they get lost, and have a spare one if they leave their blanket at their grandparents’ house.

Speed’s blanket, which has been through nearly 8 years of everything with him, is in near tatters now. It’s falling apart and no longer really resembles a blanket. He likes to ball it up and use it as a pillow when he sleeps. It’s the first thing he reaches for when he’s hurt or sick (other than mommy) and it will be a strange day when he no longer requires it to sleep. Which is coming soon, I suppose.

Do your kids still have a blanket or a toy that they can’t go to sleep without?
