Tori and Dean Shower With Their Kids, And We Do Too!Danielle
So yesterday when I saw a post from his site pop into my news feed on Facebook about two of my favorite celebrity parents (Tori & Dean) I had to read it. As it turns out, they have been pretty vocal about showering and bathing with their children.
Something I totally don’t see anything wrong with, because we do it in our household. In fact, we have been showering and bathing with our children since they were born. It started with my husband showering with the boys when they were babies. It was easy to pass them in to him while he was showering and have him wash them up and pass them back out. Plus, the boys absolutely loved it.
I was always scared I would drop them as babies if I showered with them. So I stuck to bath time. I would bring the little infant tub in the bath with me and kill two birds with one stone. It was easier than breaking my back hanging over the tub. Which I still loathe to this day.
But today there are so many people who have hang ups about being naked. Just talking about it in passing conversation can cue strange and judging looks from adults who may feel differently. Especially when the topic of my daughter jumping in the shower with her father comes up. Or the fact that my sons will shower with me. Like we are doing something wrong. Which we aren’t.
But as soon as a celebrity comes out and says they do something (especially in terms of parenting choices), the lynch mobs are out in full force. Blah blah blah your kids are too old! Blah blah blah you are going to screw them up for life! Blah blah blah being naked should be a private thing!
Lets face it. Once you become a parent, nothing is private anymore! No matter what you do, or when you do it… there is going to be a child somewhere (especially if you have more than one kid) trying to catch your attention, climb all over you or just inquire what you are doing.
Funny shower story! While showering all on my own last week, well come to think of it… it was probably two weeks ago. My oldest son opened the bathroom door and in ran the dog. Our 14 week old puppy dove into the shower with me. Right over the side of the tub and into the water. Granted, she needed a bath so I just lathered her up and went about my business. But man! I cannot wait to have two bathrooms. So I don’t have to worry about someone opening the door because they have a pee emergency.
How do you feel about showering with your children?
