It’s a cause I stand firmly behind as a participant in Team Diabetes. I have run marathons in Iceland, Easter Island, and Brazil while raising more than $20 000 for Team Diabetes over the past 10 years.
But there’s a twist: I’m not diabetic.
I joined the cause because I wanted to travel, and do something philanthropic at the same time. I was asked to join Team Diabetes in 2003 and discovered it was a great way to do both. Over the past 10 years I’ve learned a lot about diabetes, and have met many diabetics but I still didn’t really know what it felt like to have diabetes.
