What Does Having Type 1 Diabetes Feel Like? [Video]

type 1 diabetes for a dayNovember is Diabetes Awareness Month. November 14 is World Diabetes Day.

It’s a cause I stand firmly behind as a participant in Team Diabetes. I have run marathons in Iceland, Easter Island, and Brazil while raising more than $20 000 for Team Diabetes over the past 10 years.

But there’s a twist: I’m not diabetic.

I joined the cause because I wanted to travel, and do something philanthropic at the same time. I was asked to join Team Diabetes in 2003 and discovered it was a great way to do both. Over the past 10 years I’ve learned a lot about diabetes, and have met many diabetics but I still didn’t really know what it felt like to have diabetes.

So with the help of my friend Kerri I walked a mile in her shoes. After the jump, my video diary as I was Type 1 For A Day.
