What to Give the Teenage Boy Who Has Everything

Teenage boys can be hard to shop for. They always want expensive things. Or they buy things for themselves with their lawn-mowing money so they already have everything.

But this year my son asked for something that wasn’t too hard to obtain. Strange and unsettling, yes—but obtainable.

He got the idea that it would be funny to have  a mannequin head that looks like him. I found one easily enough through the magic of the internet. He will probably cut its (real human) hair to resemble his own. Oddly, all the kids love playing with it. You just never know with kids, do you. A few years ago he got a record player for Christmas so we always find records for him on E-bay. Growing boys always need clothes. He also got a thermos and an electric blanket. Electric blankets are the dark horses of gifts. Both of my boys got them this year and they were huge hits. Since my kids are into computers, I gave my older son Python For Kids. Hopefully he’ll take to it and start tinkering.

Were there any surprise gift hits at your house this year? Did something unexpected make someone very happy? Keep track because birthdays are just around the corner.
