5 Beauty Basics for the Great OutdoorsMonique Frausto
This weekend I’m leaving on a very awesome adventure courtesy of the American Latino Heritage Fund. Along with three amazing friends and fellow bloggers, we’ll be heading to the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in Arizona. Yes, that’s the desert. And to be honest with you, I’m not much of an outdoors kind of girl. But, that’s about to change.
As part of our outdoor adventure, we’re going to go hiking, kayaking, boating, and will even get a Jeep tour. It will be an amazing expedition, that will send this girl reaching for a few beauty basics for the great outdoors. No, I’m not talking shampoo, soap, and deodorant. Yes, those are coming with me, but these are the beauty products that are going to make it in my backpack for my outdoor adventures.
Here are my five beauty basics for the great outdoors:
This is always #1 on my list. You will not find me without it. Sunblock is not only a basic, but a must have. Can you imagine 8 hours of activities in the sun without a drop of it? I’d be redder than a tomato. Remember, the post 5 Summer Skin Care Myths Busted? In it I remind you to choose a Broad Spectrum with an SPF of 15 or higher. Same here. This time, I’m going with something like Neutrogena’s Ultimate Sport® Lotion Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 70+. It’s specially formulated to withstand vigorous activities.
I’m not a bug spray pro, but I do know I need it to keep any bugs off my skin. For some reason mosquitoes really love me. And when I get bit, the bites itch for days. We know the outdoors is filled with little buggers! I’m going to check out Ben’s Eco Spray Insect Repellent.
I never leave my house without a lip balm, but for the great outdoors, I’m going to step it up with something like Banana Boat’s Sport Sunscreen Lip Balm. It also has an SPF of 50 and is water and sweat resistant. Perfect for when I’m out there kayaking!
Normally, I wouldn’t consider these wipes a beauty basic. But, I figure these can be used for a range of beauty needs—like wiping the sweat and dirt off your face. Not to mention a good hand washing. I like these Wet Ones Singles Fresh Scent Antibacterial Wipes. They look like they’re easy to carry and share with your fellow outdoor buddies.
Why would I need after-sun balm, if I wear sunblock religiously? Good question. There are tons of reasons…like maybe you ran out? Missed a spot when you were applying? Or one of your good friends didn’t listen to you and is now suffering a sun burn right then and there. I’d keep this in my pack, just in case. I’m a fan of Clinique’s After-Sun Rescue Balm with Aloe.
