I realized something today…New Year’s Eve is right around the corner. I am in no way prepared. That seems to be the story of my life lately. But, now that I’ve had some time to think about it—it’s time to get my butt in gear. I know where I’m going and what I’m wearing. And in between it all, I definitely know what hairstyle I’ll be rocking when I ring in 2014.
If you haven’t gotten as far as I have, here are some New Year’s Eve hairstyle tips that could really come in handy on one of the most anticipated nights of the year!
It’s all about Preparation
Just like anything in life, preparation is key. That goes for any pending hairstyles. In order to maximize time and the possibilities of hair disasters—make sure to cut or color your hair a few days before your New Year’s Eve celebration or event. If you don’t like the outcome of either, at least you’ll have a few days to recover and come up with a solution.
Plan your Hairstyle Accordingly
Are you attending a black-tie, cocktail, or casual event? Choose a hairstyle that is not only comfortable for you, but compliments your outfit. Whenever I shop for an outfit, I already have my hairstyle in mind. Of course you can wear your hair in whatever style you’d like. But, an updo, top bun, or sleek ponytail will help show off a dazzling statement necklace, stunning earrings, and even a beaded neckline. Wear hair down with loose curls for a more casual look.
Don’t Forget to Accessorize
When it comes to your New Year’s Eve hairstyle, don’t forget to add a few hair accessories. Choose from sparkling headbands, ornate hair barrettes, jeweled Bobby pins, and even a classic fascinator. Sometimes we’re so obsessed with our outfits, we forget about dressing up our hair. I have my eye on this Cara headwrap (left).
Use Proper Haircare Products
Always remember to use proper haircare products. Whether you have curly, straight, or wavy hair, there are products specifically made for your hair type. Take this into consideration when styling your hair on New Year’s Eve. Want sleek, wavy, or volumized hair? Do you want to tame impending frizz or flyaways? There are products created for these purposes and will help maintain your look all night.
Never Leave Home Without It
If you’re worried about your hair not making it all night or if you plan on partying like an animal, make sure you take a few things on the road with you. I always shop for travel-sized products that will fit in my clutch—like hairspray. I also bring a comb, extra Bobby pins, and a rubber band for any possible touch ups. That way when I make a break for the bathroom, I will have all I need to keep my New Year’s Eve hairstyle in place.
