Back to School Picture Idea for the Slacker Mom

we are that familiaMy name is Mari Hernandez-Tuten and I am the parent that can’t quite get it together on the first day of school.  There, I said it, I’m a slacker…or maybe just forgetful. Either way, my kids have yet to get a first-day-of-school picture taken.

Well, lucky for us slacker and forgetful moms, I am starting this new trend: Second Day of School Photos!  Yes, it’s what all of us slacker and forgetful moms have dreamed of; the pressure is off.  Second day of school photos are the new black.

I’ve never had all of their school supplies shopped for by the first day.

A “special” first day of school breakfast in our house is breaking out the cookie cutters on their PB & J sandwiches.

And I always forget the first day of school pictures.

Lunch, well, I won’t even tell you what their first day of school lunch is. But before you start judging me, I must pat myself on the back because we have always tried to do something special for them at dinner on the first day of school.

I have tried.  I really wanted to be that mama on the first day of school forcing her kids to go stand by their teachers so they could have photographic memories of their childhood. Alas, I couldn’t ever remember between trying to get kids dressed and making sure their pearly whites were brushed.  I always forgot the camera. In fact, it became a joke among some friends that I decided to start my own tradition: second day of school pictures. Yup,  we’re cool like that.

So instead of feeling guilty each year because I wasn’t that totally cool mom who has it together, I decided that I really would make it a tradition, a new movement: Second Day of School Photos for Slacker Moms.  You want to help me get the word out on this new movement?  Are you in?

Actually, if you really want to have first day of school pictures, but you forget, just put on the chalkboard “first day of school.” No one will know!  I promise I won’t tell.

So stop feeling guilty and get on board with our new movement of 2nd day of school pictures. And the plus about taking pictures on the second day is that there aren’t tons of parents waiting in line to get a picture with the teacher. By the way, I am joking about starting a Second Day of School movement, but if you want to, I am totally in. Let me know, if you do.

Back To School Picture Idea: For the Slacker Mom

My name is Mari Hernandez-Tuten and I am the parent that can’t quite get it together on the first day of school.  There I said it.

My kids never have all of their school supplies shopped for and forget first day of school pictures.  I tried. Seriously, I wanted to be that mama forcing her kids to go stand by her teacher so I can snap a photo, create memories of their childhood. But I could never remember, in between trying to get kids dressed and making sure their pearly whites were cleaned I always forgot the camera.  In fact, it became a joke amongst my friends so I decided to start my own tradition. Second day of school pictures.  Yup,  we’re cool like that.

So instead of feeling guilty each year because I wasn’t that totally cool mom who has it together, I decided to start my own tradition, Second Day of School photos.  I know, my title says, Back to School Picture Idea for the Slacker Mom but the reality is I wasn’t slacking off .

Back to school in our family means we ALL go back to school. My husband is a principal and I was a counselor.  The first day of school is CHAOS at least the morning is a complete mess. I am trying to get myself ready, wake up, feed and dress three children and prepare lunches for 5 people.  Needless, to say I had no time to think about packing a camera and when I did remember to pack a camera I would forget to take pictures.
