How to Do a Super Easy Wedding Updo Yourself

Going to the hair salon each time you have a wedding invitation or a special occasion is not always the easiest on the wallet. This summer I was invited to my friend’s wedding and decided to do my own hair. I’ll start off by saying I’m no hair guru; in fact, I’m really bad at doing my own hair. But this hairstyle is so easy, anyone can recreate it at home. I was inspired by an updo I spotted on Jessica Alba. I love that this look is elegant and chic and can even be worn to the most elegant of events.

Best of all, it only requires a few simple items you already have and just a few minutes. Scroll through to get a step-by-step on how to get the look.

With only a few simple steps, you can easily get this look. Scroll through to get a step-by-step.

Start by creating a deep side part (you can choose which side you like best). I also find that second day hair works best.

Set aside a small section of hair (approximately 3 fingers wide of hair). You will use this piece later on in the hairstyle.

Comb your hair into a low side ponytail like this.

Secure with a hair elastic. You want to make sure this is tight.

Next, start twisting your hair like so.

Next, start wrapping the hair in a circle into a low bun. Then use another hair elastic to secure.

Wrap the hair elastic around the bun (approx. 1 or 2 times).

  • Step 8. 9 of 15

Make sure the bun is secured on the nape of your neck.

  • Step 9. 10 of 15

Next, use bobby pins to secure the bun.

  • Step 10. 11 of 15

Once your bun is in place, grab the small section of hair and curl it with a curling iron. I like to use a 1 ½ inch barrel from Hot Tools and wrap the hair around the barrel (not the clamp).

  • Step 11. 12 of 15

You should now have a curled piece of hair like this.

Once the hair is curled, use bobby pins to secure the strands next to the bun ... you want to go for a messy look, so you can play around with this part. It doesn't have to be perfect.

  • Step 13. 14 of 15

Finish off by spraying hair spray. I like one that is easy to brush and won't leave white flakes.

And there you have it. A super easy updo!
