At least that’s what I would say when I was sans baby. But now that I’m a mom, it’s a whole different story. When my baby is hungry—he’s hungry! The last thing on my mind is what are people going to think. I’m not going to lie, the first time I breastfed in public I was a bit shy and nervous of people’s reactions. But to my surprise, people were actually really sweet.
One time, when I was breastfeeding at the mall, a lady stopped by and said “Awe, that’s adorable, I remember when my son was that age.” Some women would even offer to help. I had read a few stories of women receiving mean looks and comments from people, so the first time I breastfed in public I came equipped with a comeback in case I got the “evil eye.” I learned it from one of my favorite bloggers A Cup of Jo and it goes like this “It’s my legal right to breastfeed my baby in public, and if you have a problem with it you can look the other way.”
Luckily my snappy comeback has yet to be used. I also use nursing cover, so for the most part you can’t even tell I’m breastfeeding, that is of course until you see my little one’s adorable dangling feet.
Do you breastfeed in public? How did other people react? I’d love to hear it.
