As a woman, there are many times in our lives when we don’t feel confident, regardless of size. Whether it’s the media, fashion brands, family, or friends telling us what we should look like and what’s beautiful. There are many reasons to doubt our own personal beauty. I myself am a plus size woman. And in the past, I’ve questioned my own self-worth. Today, I know that ALL women are beautiful. Yes, you are and so am I!
Times are changing and so are the ways plus size women are viewing themselves and their personal style. I recently returned from Full Figured Fashion Week, a week dedicated to plus size fashion. While I was there, I met with retailer Just My Size (JMS). They shared the results from their recent JMS Passion for Plus Survey.
More than 7,000 women responded to this national survey! According to JMS, More than 92 percent of survey respondents were size 16 or larger, while the average size of respondents was 22. Conducted in the spring of 2013, the survey reflected a more confident and savvy plus size woman.
“We love hearing plus-size women confirm and celebrate their confidence,” said Crystal Stowe, JMS/Just My Size marketing. “When you believe in yourself, it shows in every aspect of your life.”
And although a majority of the women surveyed were confident, we know that there are still a lot of women out there who aren’t. In my opinion, that’s something we need to continue to work on. Whether it’s portraying your own self-confidence onto others or just continuing the conversation in our plus size community. We really can work on helping all women love themselves inside and out!
The JMS brand has been designing clothes for the plus-size woman and leading the plus-size conversation for nearly 30 years. “Our ‘Passion for Plus’ survey reflects the brand’s dedication to plus-size women and their communities across the country,” said Stowe. “The survey was a terrific way to fuel conversation around passionate, plus-size beauty and the role that confidence plays in our lives.”
Here are are six of my favorite stats from the JMS Passion for Plus Survey.
