When Style Expert Tim Gunn gives you his list of wardrobe essentials, you take note. Well, in my case, you start recording. That’s what I did when I had a chance to meet him a few weeks ago. Not only is he amazingly nice, but he offered some great fashion tips and style advice.
I will say, this list he offers was my favorite. All of the items he recommends as “essentials,” are very versatile and not specific to any body shape or size. In other words, it’s something that anyone can wear. All according to their own taste—which includes preference of colors and styles. Of course, this is only one person’s opinion. You can have whatever you like in your closet. But, having these pieces will give you more options when it comes to your outfits. And you know we love options!

Trench Coat 4 of 10
I will admit I don't have a trench coat in my wardrobe. I love that Tim Gunn reminded us that we don't always have choose the basic style trench. We are allowed to step out of the box and go with something like a red patent leather one (his suggestion)! But I really do love this DKNY Plus Size Single-Breasted Belted Trench Coat.

Day Dress 5 of 10
This is one of my favorite essentials on the list, because I love wearing a day dress and there are a lot of styles to choose from. This is a more casual style and one that I'm used to. I love the relaxed look of this Maison Jules Dot-Print Shirtdress.

Classic Shirt 6 of 10
The classic shirt is another versatile staple on the list. One that can be worn casually, unbuttoned, and with a pair of denim. Or it can be worn with a tuxedo blazer or sequin skirt. The jcpâ„¢ Long-Sleeve Oxford Shirt is as classic as it gets.

Blazer 7 of 10
I love that Tim Gunn included blazers in his wardrobe essentials list. I couldn't agree more! I get so much use out of mine on a more casual basis than anything. And there are so many styles, prints, and materials to choose from. I love the classic look of this ASOS Blazer in Crepe with Slim Lapel.

This New Look Split Pencil Skirt is definitely one to consider adding to your wardrobe. I love that Tim Gunn specifies that you should pick a skirt that you're drawn to—for your own body. There are no rules as to style and color here!

Good Pair of Jeans 9 of 10
I'm guessing, Tim Gunn is referring to a durable and great fitting pair of jeans here. I have no problem with that and I totally agree with this style expert. OK, I may be a little obsessed with my denim. I have my eye on the Sweet Jean from Lucky Brand.

Sweatsuit Alternative 10 of 10
I admire Tim Gunn for adding a sweatsuit alternative to his list of wardrobe essentials. Yes, we are human, run errands, and walk the dog. And I don't know about you, but I will make sure I am comfy (in something that stretches) while I'm doing it. This Hard Tail Tee & Leggings looks like they could do the job.
