The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that a 10th infant has died in California’s whooping cough epidemic. The 10th victim, a 6-week-old in San Diego County, passed away last week.
“More than 5,270 people have been infected in California,” according to SFGate.com, and “all the babies who have died this year were too young to be fully immunized.” Accordingly, “health officials are urging parents and caretakers to get booster shots to create a cocoon of immunity around vulnerable children.”
The 9th fatality due to the pertussis outbreak in California happened just one month ago. An additional 1200 people have been infected with the disease since that time.
