13 Games to Play During Your Next Couples’ Game Night

By hismrshermr |

My husband’s family has a tradition of playing board games each year after Thanksgiving dinner. Sometimes things get a little crazy, but everyone ends up having fun. Some good friends of ours who are married have also hosted several game nights in which the couples come together and “compete” with one another. There have also been times when the guys battle the girls which, more often than not, ends in us having a bunch of sore losers on our hands, but by now us ladies are used to it.

Game night has been a great way for us to enjoy each other’s company without having to go out and spend a ton of money. We spend the evening laughing, sharing stories, and focusing on strengthening and preserving our relationships with one another. As we grow older it becomes more and more clear that real friends, the kind of friends that you can laugh and joke with, the kind of friends that will party with you but will also engage in an evening of Taboo or Charades, aren’t necessarily all that easy to find.

While our relationships with our spouses are important, our relationships with our friends are also important. Getting together with our other married friends, watching them roll eyes and give signals to their spouses, reminds us that we aren’t the only ones who drive each other crazy sometimes. More importantly, it is a testament to the fact that marriage between people who truly love one another is a beautiful thing and if you work at it, it can be a lasting thing too.

This season, at your next holiday party, consider letting the children watch a movie while the grown-ups all play or give your friends advance notice to find a babysitter and host something for just the parents. Serve appetizers and drinks and have everyone bring one of their own board games so you all have a variety to choose from.  Need some suggestions? Here are 13 games to play at your next couples’ game night.
