14-Pound Baby Born in California: Is This a State Record?

Scale breaking baby!

This is a record most mother’s would not want to break giving birth not just to the biggest baby in your town, but your entire state. But that’s just what kind of record it appears a Monterey county, California couple have done. They made a baby, a really really really big baby. Their son Matthew Andrew Maldanado was born this past Monday weighing in at a stunning 14 pounds, 3.6 ounces and it looks like this may be the biggest baby born in California, ever.

Baby Matthew beat out baby Richard Walker  Sault who was born back in 2008 and came in at 14 Pounds, 2 ounces.  And it was a tough go for Matthew’s mom, Emily. She was in labor for two days when the doctors finally decided to do a C-section.  Emily was stunned, saying, “they took him out and the doctor started saying damn, so they put him on the scale, 14 pounds, 3.6 ounces.”

This is reportedly just a record for California. The Guinness Book of World Records has the record holder being a woman who gave birth to a 23 pound, 12 ounce baby in 1879. And then there was the Indonesian woman who had the 19-pound baby not that long ago.

But giving birth to a 14-pound baby, even if it isn’t the world’s largest, still is pretty incredible!
