Most parents want to do it and fail. Ishikawa, Japan-based photographer Toyokazu Nagano, on the other hand, manages to succeed. Wildly.
As sure as you know the lines on your own face, you know your child’s personality in all of its grand and spirited glory, but capturing it on film can be a challenge. Sure, the photos you take might accurately show their sweet dimples or deep brown eyes, but it can be tough to bring out their inner sparkle along with their outer beauty.
Nagano’s 4-year-old daughter Kanna is bursting with a cute-as-a-bug face and an even cuter personality, both of which he manages to lasso into each of his many photos of her in his ongoing Photogenic Princess series. In many of the photos, Kanna stands in the middle of the same empty road dressed in costume or using props to showcase her dazzling and dizzying character. She’s got a flair for the dramatic, with an endless personality and imagination adding to the delight of each shot. To make the photos even better, she’s in on the joke. All of them, in fact.
