For some, you don’t really need a new reason to go to Disneyland. But for those – like me – who wouldn’t drop anything and everything to take the family to the “happiest place on earth,” they may need a little incentive.
This summer there are five new reasons to flock to the mecca of Mickey, things to please that girly-girl, that jedi in training, that parade lover, the swimmer, and those who love a unique (and luxurious) hotel experience.
What’s new in Disneyland this summer?
The Little Mermaid Ride
For those young ladies entranced by Disney princess culture, the more princesses the better. And in California Adventure they have heard the cry for more girly magic with the new ride featuring the tale of the one and only Ariel aka The Little Mermaid. As you ride in big giant clam shells, you travel ‘under the sea’ to view Ariel, Prince Eric, Ursula and the rest of the characters in their surrounding. Similar to their other story rides like Snow White and Peter Pan, this is a delightful addition to the their collection. But be warned, if your have a Ariel addict in the house, you’ll have to go on again and again.
Star Tours based on the epic Star Wars, had seen better days. But it has been totally upgraded, turned into 3D and has been enhanced with about 50 different story combinations so that Star Tours travelers will see a new story line each time they go for a ride. The opening of the new ride saw both Star Wars and Disneyland fanatics lining up for hours to go on it on opening day, but by the time you get there, the lines will be far shorter but if you are a fan of the Star Wars, no matter what it is worth the wait.
Mickey’s Soundsational Parade
This parade, it’s pretty cool. Really. And this is from someone who is not a parade fan. Soundational Summer pays homage to classic Disney characters as well as the music and the sounds of these films. There are floats and dancers representing flicks like Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, and even the Three Cabarellos. There are pirates, princesses, piñatas and pixies…a little something for everyone. This parade is quite a production with extravagant costumes, dancers, and of course totally over the top floats.
The new Disneyland Pool
If you are lucky enough to be staying at the Disneyland Hotel, the Magic Kingdom and California Adventure may miss you. The new pool at the Disneyland Hotel will probably steal you away for an afternoon or two. This retro styled pool features replicas of the Monorail, the old school Disneyland sign and boasts two big old water slides. And for the little ones, the waterfalls streaming from the sides of the waterslide towers creates splash areas for those who just want to frolic in a rain like downpour.
The Themed Suites
If you can afford it, you can upgrade. You don’t have to just stay in one of regular rooms at the nearby Disney properties but you can splash out and rest your head in one of the new themed suites at the Disneyland Hotel. Joining the Mickey Mouse Penthouse Suite, the Pirates of the Caribbean Suite, and their Fairy Tale suites are the amazingly appointed Adventureland Suite and the Big Thunder Suite. The Adventureland Suite features a Moroccan style day bed in the living room, a master suite with a hidden “grotto” in the bathroom, and a second bedroom that looks like a safari tent. The Big Thunder Railway is all about the old west, wood and rustic accessories…but in a very stylish way. Both pay homage to rides in the park with artwork from the development of the attractions they’re based on.
Yes, I am a Disneyland fan. Can’t help it. My enthusiasm for the place, it will always be there. I personally don’t need more reasons to go, but these ones, they don’t hurt!
