I mean, I’m not hating on exercise as a whole- I still do it- but oh man I am not one of those people that thinks it’s the highlight of my day. More like, what I dread most every day. Yes, dread is a good word for it. I thought I’d respond to this fun piece at Cafe Mom’s The Stir with my 5 Reasons Moms Hate To Exercise.
1. Exercise makes me realize how much I need to clean.
I can’t even stand to do one push up because then I’ll be reminded of all the crumbs on the floor and see #2…
2. Cleaning is like exercise.
And I don’t like to exercise, remember? The vacuum… so heavy. I’m tired.
3. If I exercise then I will get my yoga pants sweaty.
And then I will have nothing to wear.
4. Exercise makes me spend money.
I need new clothes to work out in, more healthy food to buy because if I am exercising then I usually tend to want to eat better, not to mention the membership fee at the Y I”ll need to sign up for…
5. Exercise makes the kids want to touch me.
Suddenly I’m a jungle gym! The kids can be playing quietly in a room far away but the second they find out I’m in downward dog position they are crawling through my legs and into my lap.
All kidding aside (well, wait, most of the above is totally true) I am trying to exercise in ways that work into my day. Like today, for example, I wanted an iced coffee. So we walked the mile and a half to get it at the cafe. And on the way home I figured out that if I do this every day, I won’t need to sign up at the Y after all, and will maybe even save money. A plus to taking long walks… it’s not only exercise- it gives me time to think and stuff, too. And I do love yoga. When my floor is clean and the kids aren’t around. Like that ever happens.
