After just two days of meeting, the 115 assembled cardinals selected a new pope in what Time has called a “remarkably fast conclave.” As the white smoke billowed from the smokestack on top of the Sistine Chapel, there was much speculation. Would the new pope be an American? Would the new pope be from Italy? Turns out he is neither. The new pope (the 266th pontiff) is Jorge Mario Bergoglio from Argentina.
