Instagram’s sudden and potentially game-changing launch of video hit our phones like a ton of bricks yesterday. And really, I’m not too keen on it. I use Instgram for photos, and frankly I’ve always appreciated the app’s simplicity and the opportunity for everyone to get creative in the same medium. Video is just infiltrating my world right now.
If you’re like me, and could use a little less video in your Instagram feed, fixing the problem takes no more than a swipe of the finger. As shown in the photo here, simply go to your Instagram settings and turn OFF Auto-Play for videos. All videos will then look just like photos in your feed, but with a little “play” icon in the top right, should you want to watch.
Once you’ve upgraded Instagram to the newest version, Auto-Play is automatically set to “on”, so you’ll need to go into your settings to change this. Unless of course you’re okay with being visually attacked by people turning Instagram into their own mini You-Tube, in which case, enjoy.
