“A 5-year-old boy held captive for seven days in an underground bunker in southern Alabama is alive and his kidnapper is dead,” according to NBC News. The boy, named Ethan, had been held captive by 65-year-old Jimmy Lee Dykes, who killed bus driver Charles Albert Poland Jr. last Tuesday. Ethan was held hostage in a bunker for 6 days before being safely released late this afternoon.
NBC News reports, “Within the past 24 hours negotiations deteriorated and Mr. Dykes was observed holding a gun.” Subsequently “FBI agents, fearing the child was in imminent danger, entered the bunker and rescued the child.” Ethan was recovered at 3:12 p.m. CT and is being treated at a local hospital, though he appears unharmed.
