Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz recently welcomed baby boy Egypt. Like a lot of other celebrities, the couple was clearly looking to give their child an unusual, distinctive name.
According to Famecrawler, Keys was inspired by her time spent in Egypt while “searching for inspiration for her new album, a record produced by Swiss Beatz.” Talking about the month she spent on her own in Egypt, Keys said, “it gave me a new sense of power, freedom, creativity, and limitlessness.”
Egypt also falls into the trend of naming babies after locations. Cities, states and countries are becoming popular choices for baby names.
Babble features a list of cities that double as baby names, which includes Savannah, Paris, Austin, Charlotte and Jackson. Other trendy location baby names are Brooklyn, Georgia, Victoria, Cheyenne, Jordan, Dallas, Madison, and Cuba.
What do you think of using a location as an inspiration for a baby name? And how do you like the name Egypt?
